Footprints in the sand are not made by sitting down, you constantly have to be on the move
At the diploma ceremony today, it was most appropriate that Doreen Solomons delivered the keynote address. For those of you that don't know her, allow me to simply state - she is MISS physical education. Her involvement in sport is legendary; her commitment to an active lifestyle and healthy living, total! And even in retirement, her passion is unwavered!
In her short speech, she reminded the audience that physical activity is inextricably linked to learner achievement, that it contributes to values, instills confidence, enhances social skills - gestalt development of the child cannot happen without physical activity!
She emphasizes that we need to get kids to have fun, experience life positively, and allow them to grow through social interaction. She delivered her message with poise and gentleness, but we received it loud-and-clearly.
In closing, she challenges us all to make sure we support physical education in a way that ensures its longivity in our schools.
We then proceed to hand over the diplomas, and exchange pleasantries, appropriately buoyed by a legend! Thanks Doreen, you gave us hope. Continue to create the traction in your inimitable way!
